A 22-year-old former junior national football player was shot and killed on Sunday morning at Upper Gills Road/Greenfield, St Michael, the 36th murder for 2022.

Kobe Shepherd of nearby Bedford Lane, Upper Roebuck Street, was outside a home in the district when the incident occurred.

Police say he was shot multiple times about the body by a pillion rider on a motorcycle and the perpetrators escaped along along Upper Roebuck Street, towards Tweedside Road.

Shepherd was taken for medical treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by a private vehicle, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

An avid football fan, Shepherd represented Barbados at the youth level and recently played for the University of the West Indies Blackbirds in the earlier rounds of the Republic Cup. He was a fan of Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo and wore No. 7 on his jersey.
