Barbados has been challenged to put a plan in place to monitor the condition of infrastructure like bridges and roads.

Former president of the Barbados Association of Professional Engineers, Andrew Hutchinson, pointing specifically to the Scotland District, said continued maintenance was important.

“You must have an action plan that is going to monitor the condition of your infrastructure on a regular basis. That is a necessity. My experience working across the Caribbean is that very few, if any, countries in the East Caribbean have a proper structured bridge maintenance programme,” he said.

Hutchinson was speaking at the 11th biennial conference of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) at the Radisson Aquatica Resort, under the theme Engineering On The Frontline. (Nation News)
