Stoddard secures swim scholarship

CARIFTA swimmer Adara Stoddard will be taking up a two-year scholarship, studying geology at the University of Little Rock, Arkansas.

The 17-year-old deputy headgirl of the Christ Church Foundation School leaves for the United States next June after her swimming ability and achievements were spotted on the Internet and a number of universities came a-calling.

“My two biggest fans and supporters, my mother Sharon Small and my father Addison Stoddard not only helped me in everything which I did in swimming and track, but they would post my performances online.

“When a number of universities reached out to me, I visited them and I fell in love with the Trojans’ programme at Little Rock, so we signed up for me to attend that institute. While my immediate goal will be to represent Little Rock to the best of my abilities while being successful in my studies, I am looking to improve my swimming to represent Barbados at the Olympics,” said Stoddard.

The top performer Stoddard signed off in fine style from her secondary school swimming career with a maximum 54 points in winning all six of her individual events at the recent Schools Finals. (KB)
