Today’s featured Barbados Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association (BTBA) Breeders’ Stakes and Trophy over 1 800 metres at the Garrison Savannah promises to be a real cliffhanger and is likely go down to the wire in a three-way battle for supremacy.

Ares, Pussykat, and Michal are the three fancied entrants expected to fight out a breathtaking finish in this Grade 2 event, which carries a purse of $33 500.

The Margo Atkinson-owned Ares, drawn eight, followed up his long-shot surprise second place in September in the Barbados Derby – won by Hurricane – with a maiden victory in his last start.

Going 1 570 metres – the same distance for today’s contest – with apprentice Eric Daniel in the steels, Ares romped home by a massive 12-1/4 lengths.

In his favour is the fact that he had the better of Pussykat, drawn seven, and Michal, drawn six, and most of the others entered today, including the speedy Afternoon Delight, drawn one, so Ares gets the tip for the win. (LY)
