Favourite Ares proved too good for his opponents as he accelerated in the home stretch to capture the feature Barbados Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association (BTBA) Breeders Stakes and Trophy on Saturday at the historic Garrison Savannah.

The Margo Atkinson-owned three-year-old bay colt, trained by Kenny John got a brilliant ride from apprentice Eric Daniel to claim the 1 800 metres Grade 2 race whose purse was $33 500.

Afternoon Delight and Magicmillionus traded the lead in the first furlongs before the eventual second place finisher Magicmillions took them along on a slow gallop.

Tracking them was The Code, Ares while the rest of the field struggled to stay in contact. The race became a three-horse affair all the way back into the homestretch as The Code dropped out of contention. (LY)
