Barbados’ Davis Cup tennis team is stepping up preparations for its next assignment, a World Group II play-off tie against Pacific Oceania on February 2 and 3 at the National Tennis Centre in Wildey, St Michael.

Barbados contested two Davis Cup ties last year, a World Group I play-off against Ukraine in Turkey in March and a World Group II tie at home to Ireland in September.

The Ukrainians completed a 3-0 win to claim the tie and in September, Barbados did not have the luck of the Irish as they were defeated 3-2 by Ireland at the National Tennis Centre.

While the team will not be finalised and announced until January 25, non-playing captain Damien Applewhaite reported positively on the team’s preparation. (NM)
