Haematologist/oncologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), Dr Theresa Laurent, wants a cancer control plan in place, so that everyone diagnosed with the illness, regardless of status, would have equal access to care.
She was speaking at Bay Street, St Michael, the start and end point of a walk organised by the Myeloma, Lymphoma and Leukaemia Foundation of Barbados to raise public awareness and to celebrate World Cancer Day on February 4.
“I think the most important takeaway from all of this is that every single patient, regardless of their background, whether rich or poor, regardless of race, regardless of job position, should have access to quality care, end of story.
“Quality care means that if I have a diagnosis, I should be able to have a timely diagnosis. I should be able to have timely treatment, I should be able to have all the drugs available to treat me,” said Laurent. (Nation News)
