The athletes from Extreme Velocity Club are back in Barbados after a successful trip last weekend to Canada where they won six gold and three silver medals.

CARIFTA Games sprinter Amani Mascoll-Beckles was the star performer with two gold medals, while Tonique Fleming, Rihan Price, Zachary Alexander and Jeremy Small also won gold medals.

Competing at the Variety Village Athletic Club Meet in Toronto, Mascoll-Beckles sustained his early season form which has seen him achieve the CARIFTA qualifying standard in three events – 100, 200 and 400 metres.

The Lodge School athlete raced to victory in the men’s 200 metres in 22.96 seconds with clubmate Veron Ifill taking silver in 23.09 seconds.

Combermere School student Fleming struck gold in the women’s 200 metres, clocking 26.66 seconds with Christ Church Foundation’s sprinter Niobe Holder taking silver in 26.88 seconds. Foundation’s Price won the Under-18 race.

Harrison College’s Small was first in the men’s 60-metre dash in 7:06 seconds with Queen’s College’s Sean Raphael (7.15) securing silver.

Foundation’s six-footer Alexander sped to victory in the Under-18 Boys’ 400 metres in 55.37 seconds.

Mascoll-Beckles captured Extreme Velocity’s lone medal at the prestigious Ontario Indoor Under-18 and Open Championships when he won gold in the Boys’ 400 metres in 50.50 seconds. Ifill was fourth in 51.35 seconds.

Also making the trip were Amari Knight, Chrisaria Ballantyne, Rodnico Carrington with head coach Glen Williams, assistant coaches Robert Armstrong and Jaquan Beckles, manager Nyah Hope and chaperone Ruthlyn Small accompanying the athletes. (EZS)
