Judge: Let jurors play their part

Ease up! That was the advice of Justice Carlisle Greaves to employers as a new set of people began jury duty in the No. 3 Supreme Court yesterday.

“I wish them to ease up and let you come forward. We need the numbers. We now have seven criminal courts running. The taxpayers are paying for them and they have to be successful in eliminating the backlog we have,” he said.

His comments came against a backdrop of at least two instances, during the last Sessions of the Continuous Sittings, where employers were summoned to court after complaints were made by employees.

Justice Greaves said unlike other jurisdictions in which he had presided as a judge, he found that Barbadians were very willing to serve as jurors and to participate in the judicial system. (HLE)
