Noting he was delighted with the huge fan support for the Sandy Lane Gold Cup, Minister of Sport Charles Griffith wants to see more stands at the Garrison Savannah.

Griffith told Weekend Sport the time had come to enhance the facilities at the Garrison, with improved seating capacity.

“I believe that those involved at the Turf Club, will look to see how they can expand because when you look at the numbers for the Gold Cup, there is definitely a need to expand in terms of the seating capacity for those who might want to have an area where they can sit and view the race.

“I believe that development is something they (Barbados Turf Club) should be considering,” he said.

Griffith said he was impressed with the Gold Cup Village, a concept that was introduced for the first time this year. (MK)
