Although Member of Parliament (MP) for St George South Dwight Sutherland is celebrating a decade representing the constituency, he is giving the assurance that he has much more to give.

He made that promise on Sunday at Ellerton Wesleyan Holiness Church where he acknowledged his decade as a parliamentarian, which officially began after the February 21, 2013, General Election.

“The journey has been difficult but it is only halfway so that should tell you that I have a lot more to give to this community,” Sutherland said.

As he celebrated the occasion, Sutherland who is also Minister of Housing, Lands and Maintenance, was supported by several current and former Cabinet Ministers and MPs, including Minister of Home Affairs Wilfred Abrahams, Minister of Agriculture Indar Weir, Minister of Industry Davidson Ishmael and former Minister of Health the Most Honourable Jeffrey Bostic.

During the service, Sutherland gave credit to God and the Wesleyan Holiness Church for his upbringing, and he said the church would play a critical role in restoring many of the core values that were engrained in him as he was growing up.

“We are not perfect, but what I intend to do as a Parliamentarian is ensure that when I leave St George South well into my 60s, the social fabric will be closer knitted and indeed we will be a community that is envied across the length and breadth of Barbados.

“This is about making sure that St George South remains a place where those Christian values are instilled in every single young boy and girl, so we have to rebuild and the church has to play a major and fundamental role,” he added. (TG)
