Still in the dark

Barbadians will be in the dark for a while longer about the new electricity rates they will have to pay the Barbados Light & Power Company Limited (BL&P).

While the Fair Trading Commission (FTC) has said it will hold an oral hearing to decide on the BL&P’s motion to review and vary the regulator’s February 15 decision on the matter, a date is yet to be set.

In a notice over the past week, the FTC said: “The commission will hold an oral hearing at which the notice of motion to review and vary will be heard by the commissioners. The date of the oral hearing will be communicated to the public once the date has been set.

“If at the end of the oral hearing the commission finds that its original decision should be varied, [BL&P] will have to resubmit its compliance filing in order for the commission to determine the new rates.” (Nation News)
