The Barbados Alliance to End Homelessness (BAEH) officially launched the iPLEDGE II Building Campaign to buy the property they occupy.

The original campaign started in 2021 to raise $1 million to secure full ownership of the building which is currently home to their operations at Spry Street in Bridgetown.

President Kemar Saffrey said due to the COVID-19 pandemic, their campaign was interrupted. Now, they were prepared to close the deal.

“It was quite a hectic year. However, I am happy to report that in the time . . . we would have raised roughly $300 000 in that short span of time and we are now relaunching the campaign to pay the balance, which is the $700 000.

“We want to push now and encourage Barbadians to come back on board,” he said during a press conference on Thursday.

Saffrey said the campaign was also aimed at educating the public about homelessness and BAEH’s role.

“iPLEDGE II is going to work with a series of videos because one of the things we want to do is show people what we do. We’re going to be doing a number of town hall meetings on homelessness. We’re also going to be hitting the schools and different businesses to educate them about homelessness because we just don’t want to be a building campaign but we want to educate Barbados as to what the organisation does and get them involved,” he revealed. (RT)
