The Barbados Police Service was called in to deal with an altercation on the sidelines of the annual fashion show at the Samuel Jackman Prescod Institute of Technology on Thursday afternoon.

According to reports, a fight broke out among a group of students who were not a part of the show staged by the final year students of the Garment technology programme.

A release from SJPIT principal Ian Drakes said the matter was quickly brought under control by security officers and there were no serious injuries.

“However, as is established protocol for such situations, the Barbados Police Service was called in to investigate the matter,” Drakes explained.

“At the SJPI, the safety and security of all our students and persons conducting legitimate business on the campus is of paramount importance. Because no one can ever be safe enough, we continue to put measures in place to ensure a safe environment, but we feel there is always something more we can do.

That is why we are working to include soft skills training and anger management into our curriculum.”

He said would be revealed about this measure in the coming weeks. (PR/SAT)
