Police investigate Blades Hill incident

Two police officers were injured and one man was shot by police while officers were responding to an incident in Blades Hill No. 3, St Philip on Saturday.

According to a statement, around 9 p.m. on Saturday, police received a telephone call at the District C Police Station during which they were summoned to Blades Hill No. 3.

The report received stated that an altercation between a man and the residents of the area had been ongoing.

“Police responded and, on arrival, attempted to subdue the man, whose behaviour was quite eratic. In doing so, a police officer received a stab wound to the upper left shoulder. Police called for further assistance, and a response was made by other patrolling units.

“A police officer in one of the responding units was struck by a bottle thrown by the assailant. The assailant was shot by the police. He received an injury to the lower back. He was transported  to the hospital by ambulance and, up to the time of reporting, he was receiving medical treatment and [was] stated in stable condition.

Both police officers were transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where they were treated and discharged.
