Today marks the end of Barbados’ 2022/23 winter cruise season.

The arrival of cruise ships Voyager Of The Seas and Celebrity Equinox, with a combined passenger capacity of over 7 000, brings to an end a season that, according to tourism officials, represented recovery from a COVID-19 pandemic hiatus that brought the cruise industry to a halt internationally.

Barbados kicked off its 2022/2023 winter cruise season with the arrival of Celebrity Equinox which made two calls at the Bridgetown Port between September and October, two months before the traditional official start of the season.

Around 390 calls were expected for the season and last month Minister of Tourism and International Transport Ian Gooding-Edghill said statistics showed 29 138 passengers disembarking at the port in December, a ten per cent increase that exceeded numbers for the same period in 2018/2019.  (GC)
