The Barbados Tridents have been invited to play an international football friendly match against Concacaf rivals Honduras in New Orleans, Louisiana, next month.

This was revealed by Barbados Football Association (BFA) president Randy Harris on Thursday night on the Penalty Spot radio show when quizzed on upcoming engagements for the national team.

The proposed date for the friendly international is June 18, almost three months to the day of the team’s last competitive fixture on March 26 away to Antigua and Barbuda.

It was the Tridents’ final 2022/2023 Concacaf Nations League group game and they won 2-1. It was also head coach Orlando da Costa’s first victory since taking charge of the team last November.

A three-match away friendly series against Grenada in February, da Costa’s first games in charge, ended in three consecutive draws before the Bajans lost 1-0 at home to Cuba in the Nations League on March 23.

Harris did not reveal particular details about the tour or whether there will be further games between now and the start of the new

Nations League campaign in September. However, the chance to play the Hondurans, who are ranked 80th in the world, should provide a stern test and good preparation for the 167th-ranked Barbadian team. (NM)
