Pride Barbados is back.

That was announced on Friday at UN House during the official launch of their 2023 activities.

During the event, committee members such as advocate RoAnn Mohammed spoke about the importance of celebrating their victories, but noted a lot more had to be done to improve the lives of those in the marginalised group, whom she stressed had been around for many years.

“People getting more rights doesn’t mean the infringement of the rights of others; everybody deserves to share this space, to live comfortably and safely,” Mohammed said.

“So it’s very important for the general public to know that religious freedoms, children’s rights, and other humans’ rights are not a threat when LGBT people are given rights as well.”

Advocate and noted flagperson, Didi Winston, stressed the importance of what pride was all about.

“Pride is accepting the fact that you are worthy and your value is priceless. It’s about visibility, equality, unity and acceptance. Pride for me is giving love. . . being free and letting others know you are not alone,” Winston said.

They also paid tribute to late LGBT pioneer and advocate Darcy Dear, who was laid to rest in January.

Some of the events include a quiz night, a hike, a health and wellness fair, open mic poetry night and karaoke and the Pride parade on June 25. (TG)
