There is still too high a level of ignorance regarding myasthenia gravis (MG) in Barbados and those suffering with it, says president of the Myasthenia Gravis Association of Barbados, Rosalind Mascoll.
She was speaking yesterday during a service of celebration for Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Month at Calvary Moravian Church in The City.
“Many have not heard of MG and those who have do not know what it really is. It involves a breakdown in communication from the brain where negative antibodies destroy receptors resulting in muscle weakness. The muscles don’t get the message to move so they become weak.
“But in Revelations, it says there will be no more pain and sorrow because the former things will pass away so that means no more MG, MS (multiple sclerosis), blindness or any disease, so if you are living a life without hope, turn to God,” she told the congregation. (CA)
