Barbados has named a three-member cycling team for the forthcoming Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games slated to start in El Salvador in a few weeks.

Edwin Sutherland, Jamal Eastmond and Amber Joseph will hunt for cycling between medals between June 28 and July 8. The team is being managed by Livingstone Headley with Ron Greaves performing the role of mechanic.

Joseph, 23, will race in the Omnium; Sutherland is expected to race in the elimination race while Eastmond is scheduled to ride in the Omnium.

The 26-year-old Sutherland is seeking another podium performance, having secured a bronze medal at the 2016 Pan American Track Cycling Championships in the scratch.

The trio will be looking to end this country’s 25-year medal drought in cycling at the CAC Games. The last cycling medal for Barbados was a gold from Barry Forde in the match sprint at the 1998 event in Maracaibo, Venezuela.

Forde and Hector Edwards are the only Barbadian cyclists to win medals at the CAC Games. Edwards won two medals, both of them in the time trial. At the 1974 Games in Santo Domingo, Edwards won bronze and followed with a silver at the 1978 Games in Medellin, Colombia. (MK)
