The fines imposed for illegal gun possession are having the desired effect, one High Court judge has declared.

“I don’t care what anybody says. All the fines that we have put on these youngsters for firearm and ammunition are working,” Justice Pamela Beckles said.

“I have not seen any of them come back. I have not seen any of them re-offend because after they’ve paid out money, they don’t come back around this place to have to pay out more money or do time in prison,” the judge said in the No. 5 Supreme Court.

She was speaking as Jamar Carieous Browne reappeared before her to make another payment on his gun fine.  (HLE)
