All of the Category 1 emergency shelters across Barbados are open to accommodate people as Tropical Storm Bret passes the island.

The lone exception is the Ellerton Wesleyan Holiness Church, St George, and residents are advised they can use the Cuthbert Moore Primary School.

Director of the Department of Emergency Services, Kerry Hinds, says 16 people, scattered across the country, have sought shelter so far for the night.

Meanwhile, Minister of Home Affairs, Wilfred Abrahams, also cautioned Barbadians and visitors against going to the beach on Friday, even after storm passes, as there is the possibility of rip tides. (PR/SAT/BW)
