Judge warns: No means no

As the Crop Over season goes into high gear, a judge is warning men that no means no.

Justice Christopher Birch issued the caution yesterday as he sentenced a man who was found guilty of indecently assaulting his tenant four years ago.

“It does not matter what the victim does. It does not matter what the victim is wearing. It does not matter where the victim is. No means no,” he declared.

“And we’re moving in to a period right now where this message has to go out to a lot of us men and women because, moving into the festive Crop Over season, there are going to be a lot of people out there behaving in a manner that the wrong-headed, the lustful, the misguided will take as an invitation to interfere with and they’ll want to pass it off, when they do, as a joke,” the judge said.
