After centuries of serving as the place where offenders were tried and jailed, the Old Supreme Court building on Coleridge Street will soon have a new role.
In addition, two of the District “A” magistrates will be moving back into the refurbished District “A” Magistrates’ Court building in about two weeks.
Word of this has come from Attorney General Dale Marshall after he, Chief Justice Sir Patterson Cheltenham and other officials toured the Bridgetown complex yesterday.
Marshall noted that while the major part of the Henry Forde and David Simmons Legal and Judicial Complex had been opened last November, the Old Town Hall was still being refurbished. However, he said work on that building was nearing completion.
“That old Town Hall will be the home for Barbados’ Arbitration Centre. We expect to use the wonderfully outfitted and renovated rooms in that Old Town Hall for arbitration purposes and alternative mediation,” the Attorney General. (HLE)
