Barbados Under-16 netballer Kennia Blackman came off the bench to lead Guardian Group Pride of Villa to a repeat Division One knockout netball crown with a thrilling 39-36 victory over UWI Blackbirds at the Netball Stadium on Monday night.

Springer Memorial School student Blackman gave herself an early gift for her 16th birthday, which comes on Saturday, with some fantastic shooting executed from unbelievable distances as the ball repeatedly kissed nothing but net.

When Blackman entered the game, Villa’s shooters, Barbados captain Faye Agard and Delicia Murrell were struggling.

UWI’s defenders Akeena Stoute and Conique Moore were stifling Villa’s attack with Agard and Murrell resorting to taking ill-advised shots at the hoop. On the other hand, the shooting form of Shonica Wharton and Brianna Holder saw UWI cruising to a 13-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. (KB)
