Deandra Dottin’s half century fired Thunder Cricket to a six-wicket win over Northern Diamonds in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy at the Roseworth Terrace cricket ground in York.

This victory, their first 50-over win for the season, was sealed with 12.2 overs to spare and saw Thunder Cricket move off the foot of the table.

Northern Diamonds were sent into the bat and posted 167 inside 43.5 overs. Thunder Cricket responded with 168-4 after 38.4 overs, Dottin top scoring with 54 not out.

Arriving at the crease with the score at 58-3 in the twelfth over, Dottin initially found scoring challenging on a wicket that was keeping low. However, after a short rain break, the Barbadian, paired with Naomi Dattani, seemed to assess conditions better and ticked along comfortably during their 98-run partnership.

The former West Indies international responded to Dattani’s dismissal with just 12 runs needed by reaching her half century from 88 balls in the 37th over. Captain and wicket keeper Ellie Threlkeld knocked off the winning runs.

Earlier in the game Dattani took a four-wicket haul, which included England international Lauren Winfield-Hill, which was crucial in limiting the side to a below par total.

Summarised Scores

Northern Diamonds 167 all out in 43.5 overs (Lauren Winfield-Hill 33, Sterre Kalis; Naomi Dattani 4-16, Liberty Heap 2-11). Thunder Cricket 168-4 in 38.4 overs (Deandra Dottin 54*, Naomi Dattani 46; Katie Levick 2-43). Thunder won by six wickets. (JC)
