Deighton Griffith Secondary School (DGSS) clinched the Barbados Secondary School’s Under 14 football title with an emphatic 4-1 victory over the Lodge School on Thursday evening at the Pine Resource Centre.

In a clash between two teams with varying styles and strengths, DGSS struck the first blow through defender Arron Atherley’s long range free kick in the first half. It appeared as though it would be a long evening for the boys from Massiah Street, but they found a fortunate equaliser through Tye Waterman just before the half-time whistle.

Lodge physically imposed themselves on DGSS at the start of the second half but could not turn their physical dominance into another goal. Two rapid second half strikes by Jacobi Lovell put the result beyond all doubt as Lodge benefitted from their technical brilliance on the ball. Element Walcott capped off a fine victory with a penalty four minutes before full time as DGSS returned the Under 14 crown to Kingsland. (NM)
