Work should soon restart at Kensington New Road, St Michael as the substance which was suspected to be sewage has been pumped from the drains.
While not able to confirm that the substance was indeed sewage, Environmental Health Specialist, Steve Daniel told the Sunday Sun that a decision was made to pump the substance from the drains so that the workers could recommence in a safe environment.
Work on the road in the close knit community which involves the installation of gas pipes and connection to the Bridgetown Sewage Plant was about to restart after being halted for several months but two weeks ago workmen discovered what appeared to be sewage in the drains.
Daniel said: “We did receive a report but to confirm whether it is sewage we would need to take the samples to the lab . . . . “
He said the substance had now been removed for safety purposes. (MB)
