Bajan ballers under pressure

Barbados’ girls are in a desperate bid to win both or at least one of their remaining games to advance to the play-off round of the 18th CAZOVA Volleyball Championships being played here in the Anthony Nesty Sports Hall in Suriname.

That desperation resulted from the Bajan girls losing to Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday and then crashing to their second successive defeat on Monday going down to Jamaica in straight sets 21-25, 23-25, 17-25.

Following an off day yesterday, six-time champions Barbados will face former queens, The Bahamas today at 2:30 p.m. and they battle hosts Suriname tomorrow at 7 p.m.

Barbados started badly against Jamaica with libero Tonneil Rowe suffering an injury in the second play of the first set. Rowe then watched the remainder of the match from the sidelines as her teammates played a horrible passing and defence game. (KB)
