The next generation of Barbados volleyballers will be chasing a piece of history when they meet hosts and defending champions Suriname in the men’s finals of the 18th CAZOVA Volleyball Championships in the Anthony Nesty Sports Hall, in Suriname today at 5:30 p.m.

Barbados previously captured the crown an enviable ten times before a meltdown in 2008 in the Wildey Gymnasium saw the Bajans losing to Martinique after being up game and match point in the fourth set.

Most of these present players were children at that time.

Significantly, captain Akeel Oxley and his cousin Ashe Oxley will be looking to re-establish the dominance set by the team’s assistant coach Elwyn Oxley, who is the father of Ashe. Back in 2008, Elwyn was the captain of the Barbados team.

Barbados have won all their matches thus far . . . (KB)
