National elite female boxer Kimberly Gittens has embarked on a new challenge, taking up the position as manager of the Barbados team travelling tomorrow to Guyana to compete in the Winfield Brathwaite Caribbean Schoolboys and Junior Boxing Tournament.

This annual event is scheduled for this weekend and will feature competitors from Trinidad and Tobago, St Lucia, Grenada and host country Barbados.

Excited about the opportunity, Gittens, a bronze medallist at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games held in Colombia, told NATIONSPORT, she was looking forward to managing the eight member Barbados team alongside experienced national coach Gary Bowen to do well.

“Normally when I leave I go as an athlete so they have trusted me enough to do the job. So, I am not nervous at all and I think I will make a good contribution to my coach Gary Bowen who is going to lead the way for our young upcoming boxers. . .”
