Barbados’ journey at the Caribbean Football Union’s (CFU) Girls’ Under-14 Challenge in Antigua and Barbuda came to an agonising end in the group stage yesterday after a 2-1 defeat to Bermuda at the ABFA Technical Centre in Piggotts.

The young Lady Tridents needed a draw or victory to advance from Group B of Tier II after Thursday’s opening day 2-0 victory over Bonaire and a 1-1 draw with Antigua and Barbuda on Friday night.

Coach Fitzgerald Carter’s brave team opened the scoring in the sixth minute through Danika Antoine, who finished off a swift counter-attack and curled her shot around Bermuda goalkeeper Semaj Baisden-Scott.

Serenity Armstrong won a corner kick for Bermuda in the 24th minute and the ensuing set piece was inadvertently turned into the back of her own net by Barbados’ Chloe Blackman much to her disappointment but to the Bermudans’ relief. (NM)
