It’s not the intention of education officials to “go to war” over issues affecting the sector.
However, the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) will continue to advocate on behalf of its members when necessary as “sometimes war is necessary to get peace”.
That was the response of BUT president Rudy Lovell following Chief Education Officer Dr Ramona Archer-Bradshaw’s plea to union members to remember that they were teachers first and to seek greater collaboration. She made the call during a service at the Collymore Rock Church of the Nazarene yesterday morning to mark the start of Education Month.
“Contrary to comments made at the opening ceremony for Education Month, the BUT does not want to go to war with the Ministry of Education. However, when we have to fight for the rights of our members, we will. If that’s construed as a war, then so be it,” Lovell told the Daily Nation. (TG)
