MarzVille is breaking barriers and making moves to take soca music and Barbados culture to a new uncharted territory. He has been selected as the first soca artiste to perform in Alaska at Caribbean Night.
“I feel so honoured to be the first soca artiste and that they actually chose me,” he told BUZZ.
MarzVille real name Omar McQuilkin, and his team have been working hard to carry the Caribbean culture across the world through his entertaining performances and versatile vocals.
“It will be high energy as usual. I am going to introduce them to a couple new songs as well. It will be ‘Welcome To MarzVille’,” he said, chuckling.
The event is put on by Tru Rhythm Entertainment who said, “Caribbean Night was founded as a way for the local Caribbean community to come together for fellowship while enjoying their culture and vibe, through dance and music, on a monthly basis. What better way to celebrate our first anniversary of Caribbean Night, at the world famous Chilkoot Charlie’s, now known as Koot’s, than with soca music? We have chosen MarzVille to headline this event serving as Alaska’s introduction to the energy that encompasses the spirit of soca today.”
David “Militant” Blake’s, cultural ambassador and event promoter of Tru Rhythm Entertainment, said the mission is to spread the Caribbean culture to the masses through entertainment events and create a sense of community amongst the Caribbean people residing in Alaska.
This booking was spearheaded by Curvon Balkaran, who is part of MarzVille’s booking team from the United States.
MarzVille who left the island on Wednesday night, said he has been preparing for the cold weather with “my AC up to all”.
“I heard it is about -1 degrees and that will be a first for me. I prepared with four inside long-sleeved shirts, a hoodie, a jacket and two pants to wear on the inside. That cold going to have me good,” he said.
The versatile artiste also said: “My team and I continue to seek out new territories to charter in the hopes of spreading the enjoyment of soca, sharing the Barbadian culture and networking to create even more exciting opportunities.” (PR/NS)
