The Scantlebury family has been left reeling as it struggles to deal with a double tragedy.

Two Fridays ago their mother passed away suddenly at home and yesterday, they lost Jakeem Romain Scantlebury-Bishop, just three days shy of his 26th birthday, in a vehicular accident.

Police reported that a fatal collision occurred around 12:30 a.m. yesterday along the Warleigh, St Peter section of the Ronald Mapp Highway. The car was travelling north along the highway when the driver lost control and ran off the road into a bushy area on the left of the carriageway.

Initial reports identified Jakeem, a landscaper, of Indian Ground, St Peter, as the driver but it was later clarified that he was the passenger. The youth was pronounced dead at the scene by a doctor and identified by a family member.
