Mellows Hill road ‘slipping away’

The road in Mellows Hill, St Joseph is cracking and a section of it has been reduced to single lane due to the land slippage.

Land slippage last Saturday morning caused a section of the road in the residential area to fall into a valley.

The Ministry of Transport, Works and Water Resources announced on Monday that the affected section of Mellows Hill had been cordoned off and urged motorists to proceed with caution.

Speaking with the Daily Nation on Tuesday, resident Emmerson Nichols recalled hearing a ripping sound from the road and the adjacent land moments after the slippage.

He said this was the second time that section of the road has eroded, citing a previous slippage on October 7. These closely related situations have compounded concerns about the state of the road. (JRN)
