Government will be investing in new military facility while adding more resources to the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) as the country seeks to protect its assets amidst impending global challenges.

This was disclosed by Attorney General Dale Marshall as he delivered the feature remarks for the passing out parade for 54 recruits of the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) at St Ann’s Fort yesterday.

Marshall said the BDF, whose record of service to the country throughout the decades is unquestioned, is now in higher demand to meet these new challenges which could threaten national security.

“As the next generation of military professionals, you would play a critical role in addressing these challenges head on. Climate change has far-reaching implications for our armed forces both domestically and locally and it requires us to adapt and introduce resilience building measures to ensure the sustainability of all small island developing states,” Marshall said.

He continued: “These new threats demand a further investment in our people and in our physical plant. The demands placed on the Barbados Defence Force often outstrip their resources. . .”(CLM)
