Former division one queens Deacons and Hill Road maintained outside hopes of tracking leaders UWI Blackbirds when the Goddard Enterprises Limited volleyball action continued Thursday night at Oldbury, St Philip.

Hill Road defeated former double crown champions Warrens 25-17, 25-16, 16-25, 26-24 to end the first round on 25 points from a 5/3 effort. With former professional player Anicia Wood showing glimpses of her past spiking and blocking Warrens provided entertainment in the third set.

Wood and Warrens then made a strong bid to carry the game into the decider as former national setter Sophia Walcott decided to constantly unleash the six-foot centre player.

However, Barbados captain Anthazia Mason who in her previous five iterations turned out for Warrens decided to take on Wood in attack and blocking for Hill Road to take a close fourth set and the match. (KB)
