UWI Blackbirds flew one game closer to double crown status while eliminating another possible threat to the Goddard Enterprises Limited Division One League title when the women’s volleyball action continued Thursday night at Oldbury, St. Philip.

The Blackbirds surprisingly dropped two sets but still defeated Hill Road 25-14, 25-21, 21-25, 20-25, 15-11. That carried UWI to a 9/0 record and 38 points. Hill Road have moved to 31 points, two better than the defending champions Burger King Clapham Toners.

However, having lost four games in ten matches, Hill Road can no longer hold realistic hopes of overhauling UWI.

Toners have lost three matches out of their nine and will need UWI to be beaten at least three times to retain their 2022 crown. It remains to be seen who will aid and abet Toners in beating the UWI team. (KB)
