Lady Tridents upset by SVG

The Barbados senior women’s football team stumbled to a serious upset in their final group game of the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup qualifiers after they were served a 4-2 defeat at the hands of minnows St Vincent and the Grenadines yesterday evening at the Hasely Crawford Stadium here in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.

It was the Vincentians’ first win of the tournament in their final game as well as the their first goals scored while the Lady Tridents suffered their second loss on the trot and their second straight 4-2 away defeat in the group.

Ashante Browne opened the scoring in the 12th minute while Samayaa Connell, Jessicia Miller and Asanteni Charles all scored within seven minutes, late in the second half for the Vincentians.

Shanice Stevenson scored for the Bajans from long range in the 74th minute and Tiana Bynoe forced a stoppage time own goal from Vincy goalkeeper Altica Benn. (NM)
