Combermere still champs

Combermere School came from behind on day one to pull off a repeat victory in the third edition of the Dasani Powerade Rivaldo Leacock Championship organised by Tempo Sports at the Lester Vaughan School yesterday afternoon.

The Waterford based squad amassed a total of 556 points over the two days of competition to secure the victory ahead of second place Coleridge & Parry who totalled 439 points.

At the end of day one, Coleridge and Parry held a slender 15-point lead of 209 in the invitational competition due to victories in the long jump, shot put and discus. Combermere came back with fire in their bellies on day two with their performances in the relays giving them the separation they needed to take home the trophy for a successive year.

Third place went to the Alleyne School who earned 334 points whilst hosts and inaugural champions Lester Vaughn came fourth with 249 points. St George Secondary came fifth with 233, the Ellerslie School came sixth with 212 and the Alexandra School came seventh with 195 points. (DG)
