Women’s national football team head coach Mario Harte and assistant coach Tazieo Riley have officially stepped down from their posts following the Lady Tridents’ 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup qualifying campaign which concluded last week in Trinidad and Tobago.

Harte, a former men’s national team striker with over 40 caps, and Riley were appointed in late 2021 and oversaw tours with the team, the aforementioned W Gold Cup campaign and the 2022 Concacaf W Championship qualifiers, as well as a two-match friendly international series away to Suriname in January 2022.

“I think the time is now for me to move on, I’m satisfied with where I have brought the team and maybe it’s time for someone else to take them to the next level,” Harte told Sun Sport in an exclusive interview.

“I feel good with my time spent and I feel it was a success in terms of the movement of the team. I think we got an identity and a clear pattern of play. The girls understand the game and their roles and responsibilities, so I am happy with that.”

Harte had hoped for a better ending to his tenure that the double defeats in December’s match window to Dominican Republic and St Vincent and the Grenadines, but he urged supporters to be realistic of the team’s level and continually seek ways to improve.(NM)
