Barbados welcomed thousands of visitors yesterday at the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) as the 2023/2024 Winter Season officially kicked off.

In the space of four hours, 16 flights were scheduled to touch down – ten international and six air-to-sea flights.

The first arrivals were from American Airlines, carrying 171 passengers; Air Canada, 287, and Virgin Atlantic, 151.

GAIA corporate communications specialist Sharleen Browne told the media: “Today we are marking the official start of the winter season. We are very excited. We have been seeing high numbers recently and we expect this official start to be no different. We’ve been celebrating the increase of tourists on the island and that is definitely a positive for our tourism product.”

The occasion was conducted in partnership with the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) which arranged a welcome for the arrivals. (CA)
