Buoyed by A superb all-round performance by Shaquille Cumberbatch, Empire defeated Bayview Hospital YMPC by nine wickets to secure the 2023 Barbados Cricket Association Elite Division Championship yesterday.
They ended with 106 points to dethrone last year’s winners and long-standing leaders, Wildey, who were two points behind in second place.
The victory was achieved just minutes before the scheduled tea break, and shortly after rain drenched the Empire ground during what would have been the post-tea session.
Set 96 for victory, Empire romped to 96 for one to earn their 22nd top-flight league title. YMPC had scored 224 in their first innings to which Empire replied with 227 for eight declared. (PH)
