On a cold, wet Sunday night at the Wildey Turf, reigning Barbados Football Association Premier League and Champions Cup winners Ensure Max Protein Weymouth Wales completed a treble when they defeated Wotton FC 6-1 in the final of the Barbados Football Association’s Republic Cup.

The spectators got more than they bargained for in terms of spectacle, drama and intense play, as Wotton, cast as the David character attacked Wales, the Goliath, with everything they had.

Neither team could break the other’s defence for the entire first half although they both had their chances. There were cautions for players from both sides as tensions mounted and tempers began to flare, with the first half ending 0-0.

The drama heightened in the 48th minute when Wales and Wotton players got into a fracas on the pitch which halted play for four minutes. Mario Williams of Wales and Rickneco Marshall were sent off, reducing both teams to ten men. (DG)
