The Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP) today expressed sadness on the passing of “local icons” Mark Williams and Gwyneth Squires.

In a statement, BARP said both made a contribution to the development of the country that was immeasurable.

“In the cycle of life loss is expected, but what cannot be accepted is the loss of knowledge which too often goes with our stalwarts. BARP is calling for a nationally driven programme to record the stories of our nation’s builders and write them where they deserve – on our history’s page,” it added.

The organisation also extended condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of both Williams and Squires. (PR/SAT)
