Accused’s bail set at $1.5m

Despite strong objections about the sum, Magistrate Manilla Renee stuck to her guns that drug accused Rashad Shakiel Tramaine Wharton’s bail would be $1.5 million in relation to a drug haul worth more than $8 million.

However, the magistrate told the accused he could have up to four sureties if necessary.

Wharton remains on remand until he finds those sureties.

The 30-year-old of Bottom Close, Wildey, St Michael, was in the District “A” Magistrates’ Court yesterday where he was not required to plead to doing acts preparatory, between September 1 and October 6, 2023, for the purpose of trafficking in the controlled drug cannabis.

He was also not required to plead to conspiring with another to traffick in cannabis, also between September 1 and October 6, last year, and that he was trafficking in cannabis on October 6. (HLE)
