Mould has been detected on surfaces at Luther Thorne Memorial Primary School and an expert has advised the Ministry of Education that regular detailed cleaning should be conducted at school plants across the island to avoid the growth of the type of fungi.

This advice has come from environmental hygienist Ian Weekes who confirmed that mould was removed from Luther Thorne Memorial Primary where an environmental assessment was conducted on November 28.

Weekes was speaking during a press conference yesterday where Minister of Education Kay McConney revealed that Luther Thorne, St Paul’s Primary and the Ann Hill where remedial work have been carried out in recent weeks to address persistent environmental issues, would all be opened for teaching and learning when students across the island return to the classroom on Tuesday.

“The important thing therefore is for us to do regular detailed cleaning and this would include not just the contracted cleaners but also the janitorial staff. We have trained some staff before and we are willing to train others to help in that effort because that is the only way that we will control stuff in the workspaces. . . (AH)

  1. Isn’t this just common sense? Why do we need an “expert” to tell you to clean your house? Lack of maintenance of properties is a major problem in this country. Too much neglect/
