It was a “strong scent” of marijuana that drew accused Herwin Llewellyn Burrowes to his attention, a lawman said yesterday.

When he tried to arrest him and take him away, said Constable Jabarry Mayers, the accused pushed him away and ran.

Mayers was testifying in the escape trial of Burrowes in the No. 4 Supreme Court.

Burrowes, of Taylor’s Gap, Delamere Land, St Michael, is accused that having been arrested for unlawful possession of cannabis, on June 9, 2018, he escaped lawful custody by the use of force while at Temple Yard, The City.

The lawman said he was on duty in Temple Yard when he saw Burrowes, who was carrying a green and black haversack, standing between two stalls. (HLE)
