Accused Herwin Llewellyn Burrowes yesterday admitted he ‘got way’ from police but denied he had cannabis in his possession on that day.

However, the prosecution brought rebuttal evidence from two lawmen, including one who said the accused had a conviction for having drugs on the same date as the escape charge.

Burrowes, of Taylor’s Gap, Delamere Land, St Michael, has denied that having been arrested for unlawful possession of cannabis on June 9, 2018, he escaped lawful custody by the use of force while at Temple Yard, The City.

He opted to make an unsworn statement from the dock of the No 4 Supreme Court.

The accused told the court: “The police come in Temple Yard and everybody run.

“The police hold on to me. I never tell police nothing and we struggle and I got way,” he said. (HLE)
